Why do people think the republican party has a monopoly protecting the country during war?

The US was led by FDR to victory, a democrat during WWII, whom by the way was elected 4 times. Also Bill Clinton led the US to victory during the Kosovo conflict with out losing a single american live. George Bush did an excellent job during the first gulf war. Obviously there is not monopoly on either party on leading the country to victory during war times. Why do people believe the republicans are the only ones who can do it. Let's don't talk about war blunders, like what George W. Bush has done in Iraq.
