Do you agree with Bill Maher that it doesn't make sense that republicans always get roughly half of the votes?

At some point over the last couple of decades - the GOP got social conservatives to believe that they were going to reverse Abortion and were going to act on other social issues - like prayer in school, you know those things the GOP pays really good lip service to but never seems to do jack squat!
